Dental implants are a great solution for one or more missing teeth. They comprise a titanium screw, which is secured into the jaw bone under local anaesthetic and, after bonding and healing has taken place, a crown is fitted on top.
Implants function in much the same way as regular teeth and are easier to care for than dentures. They are also permanent, so you don’t have to remove them at night or for cleaning. Unlike bridges, you don’t need any work done to surrounding, healthy teeth to fit a dental implant, and if looked after properly they can last for many years.
Like regular teeth, you need to look after your implants properly, cleaning your teeth with a toothbrush and floss or interdental brushes, and attending regular dental check-ups. Habits such as smoking can have a detrimental effect on dental implants and you should discuss this with your dentist before treatment.
At Causeway and Blackhorse Way dental practices we work with an Implant Centre to place your implants. We refer patients to the trusted Implant Centre at Hayward’s Heath or Hove as well as the Surrey Dental Specialists in Dorking, for the surgical part of the procedure (the fitting of the implants to the bone) and in some cases the crown used in restoration can be placed at our practice.
