If you develop decay (a hole) in one of your teeth, your dentist will discuss with you the options available to restore the tooth to its natural function, usually by placing a filling.
One option is to opt for a tooth-coloured or ‘white’ filling. The filling is made from a very hard substance and will withstand the forces in your mouth when you bite and chew over a long period of time. This will allow you to smile without a metallic glint in sight, giving your teeth a more natural appearance overall.
The other option is the amalgam or ‘metal’ fillings. These fillings are hard wearing and have usually last for a long period of time. Current clinical research and long term use has shown them to be a safe and effective treatment.
As dentists we believe prevention is always better than cure and will always encourage and help you to look after your teeth so you don’t develop tooth decay in the first place.
